Employees 'want to tap into mobile technology benefits'
Research conducted by networking giant Cisco indicates that two-thirds of workers surveyed believe that, courtesy of mobile technology, they can work as productively at home or on the move as in the office.
Some 13 per cent of the 2,600 respondents said increased flexibility would increase their loyalty to their employer, while nine per cent said it would bolster their employee morale.
A significant 66 per cent of workers claimed they would even accept a lower paid job if this allowed them to escape the daily commute into the office.
And Cisco found that remote workers are likely to dedicate more hours each day to their employment tasks.
The study indicated that 45 per cent of home-based staff spend an extra two to three hours working, with 25 per cent giving four hours' free labour per day to their employers.

However, employees want to be provided with a variety of mobile devices, including laptops, smartphones and tablets, to facilitate this remote working revolution.
Some 66 per cent said they expect to be able to access corporate networks, applications, and information anywhere at any time.
They also expect employers to continue investing in modern technology as device manufacturers innovate, giving them the best possible opportunity to be productive.
Marie Hattar, vice-president for borderless networks at Cisco, said the desire among employees to be more mobile and flexible in their work lifestyles is extremely strong throughout the world.
"It is also evident that organisations need to embrace a borderless IT infrastructure to capture competitive advantage and increase employee satisfaction," she stated.
"The employee desire to be productive anytime, anywhere, using any device provides an opportunity to embrace agility and flexibility."
